Question: Did Ruby enter into the conversation when it came to adding more scripting languages? How do you feel about that language in general?
Asked by Punky Brewster (76.226.51.x) on September 21 2015, 4:05pm
Reply on September 22 2015, 1:29pm:
It didn't. I don't know much about Ruby, is it designed to be integrated into other applications? Lua really does a good job at that...

Question: How did you become an expert at programming. And also what programming languages do you like?
Asked by Vivek (202.83.19.x) on September 14 2015, 8:14am
Reply on September 14 2015, 2:19pm:
I'm an amateur! At this point I find Javascript to be sort of the most enjoyable, but I'm much better at C and C++. PHP is also a good time. Perl has a certain minimalist elegance that I like too, but I'm really terrible with it.

Question: Did it really sound terrible, or was it placebo because you knew about the rounding errors?

Terrible is subjective, but let's just say non-transparent...

Question: On Sept 3 2009 on here you said you have nitrane source on a CD-R. Were you lying then or lying now? haha :P
Asked by Will (107.203.156.x) on September 8 2015, 10:56pm
Reply on September 9 2015, 5:47pm (edited at September 10 2015, 2:37pm):
When I moved to NY I got rid of / destroyed a lot of old things (whether there was an old CD-R with Winamp code on it, I have no idea -- but I can tell you with certainty now that I don't have anything).

Also: Who cares? It was a bunch of optimizations for CPUs which nobody uses anymore, and modern CPUs crush it. Also the MMX optimizations, for example, involved a lot of integer rounding errors that made it sound terrible.

Question: Would it be interesting to rethink the way DAWs have traditionally drawn graphics by implementing more GPU processing? I have the feeling that if the graphics and audio fields merge a little more lots of new user interface capabilities and workflow paradigms would emerge. How would a DAW feel like if it was built around GPU accelerated graphics? (Editing
Asked by Oblong (92.250.121.x) on September 6 2015, 11:25pm
Reply on September 7 2015, 2:43am:
I don't think it would be that interesting, the graphical rendering portion isn't really the bottleneck, generally, and also sending lots of data to the GPU has more potential to interrupt audio, IMO.

Question: *sigh* how do you have the highschool email program still up on 1014, but nitrane code only exists on a failing CD-R in storage somewhere? isn't that a bit ironic that the bits that gave you everything you have are least coddled? haha :P
Asked by Will (107.203.156.x) on September 6 2015, 5:33am
Reply on September 6 2015, 7:10pm:
I destroyed all copies of Winamp code that I had when I left AOL, it wasn't mine to keep!

Question: I code shitty C# winform apps in Visual Studio so Design/Designer View is where the app's GUI is created/modified by dragging and dropping. I'd love to see the environment that allows you to write code and modify REAPER's GUI. Please???

Asked by Digaldeman (99.173.156.x) on September 2 2015, 7:19pm
Reply on September 2 2015, 8:55pm (edited at September 2 2015, 8:56pm):
Heh I was thinking actually I might have something that would be fun to show. Having said that, I code in various environments from xcode 6 to VC6 to VS2013 to vim, so if I did do it it would just be a random snapshot and not indicative of all things...

    Also, design view?! What's that?
