Question: What do you think about coding tutorial websites like codecademy.com? Is this the new way to go for teaching youngsters to code? It's like code packed into another big bunch of code. :D

I haven't spent much time on those (why would I, really?), but I think the amount of information available now is fantastic. The 16-year-old-me is incredibly jealous.

Question: I have the impression you have been the sole developer of REAPER for a long time (which is an amazing tour de force in itself). When did you hire your first employee, and how many full time developers are there today ?
Asked by Nicolas (78.192.140.x) on November 25 2015, 8:50pm
Reply on November 28 2015, 1:38am:
I was only the sole developer of REAPER for a short time, then soon after it got limping along, Christophe started contributing. Schwa joined a couple of years later (or so, I forget, it's been so long!), then a couple of years ago Christophe left and JeffOS started contributing... so there you go.

Question: Do you enjoy being more responsive to the testers of the current pre-releases or is it sometimes tedious to answer all the questions? Anyway, I like the fact that you're giving us users more information about the development. :)
Asked by Albi (86.128.178.x) on November 24 2015, 11:05pm
Reply on November 25 2015, 3:57am:
I definitely do enjoy it, but it isn't always easy. Also it can be a bit frustrating when the discussion gets derailed and on to a subject which isn't really relevant from a development perspective, though sometimes that works out for the best too. Anyway...

Question: How long do you think it would take you to write a minimalist daw with the insight into the problem you have from reaper? (no copy/paste or referencing from reaper allowed!) :)
Asked by heh heh (79.55.9.x) on November 8 2015, 7:56pm

Minimalist DAW -- that is incredibly vague! Also do you mean something somewhat usable, or something solid? I'd say anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 years, depending on the answers to those questions.

Question: Sorry didn't notice, copy pasted from notepad. It cut the word something and that i will love Reaper for the rest of life and understand it's probably a very particular problem. Would love to know what you think about it though, just as an abstract concept.

Question: It's 18 years since Winamp 1.x (thank you, BTW. Loved it). How do you feel about what became of the tech that you created under the Nullsoft banner? I am specifically talking about Winamp, SHOUTcast, gnutella and WASTE, but if you have strong thoughts on others, or want to include your thoughts on AOL after all this time, please feel free to share.

It's a shame that it ended up where it has. I'd like it back, but don't think it's terribly valuable at this point.

Question: Is there any way for a JSFX to detect which operating system it's being run on? I don't need to know the version, just Windows vs OSX will do. Bonus points if the method works when running JSFX in ReaJS too. The reason I need this is because gfx_drawNumber rounds off in Windows but truncates in OSX: forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=168401

Hmm a better solution would be to fix the rounding issue you describe :)
