Question: When someone works on an extension to Reaper, whether it's a ReaScript or a DLL, does it influence you away from extending Reaper in that area, so as to not 'tread on the toes' of the author?
Asked by jamesd256 (79.77.82.x) on March 12 2016, 8:59pm
Reply on March 12 2016, 9:37pm:
Having a script or plug-in to do something really well will make us less likely to implement it natively, but it's less about not wanting to step on toes, and more about it being less fun to reimplement something that already exists. Having said that, if a script does something that can be done a lot better natively and demonstrates the value in doing it, then it can also encourage it to be done...

Question: I heard you fell asleep last night while playing around with the ARA SDK. Is it true?
Asked by Mommy (99.173.156.x) on March 11 2016, 11:54pm
Reply on March 12 2016, 9:37pm (edited at March 12 2016, 9:40pm):
Hah no. Celemony could also add support for REAPER's equivalent of ARA, since we document that API (and ReaScripts and ReaTune already use it)...

I suppose I should ask Celemony for a recent version of the ARA SDK, but there's always more interesting things to do than that...

Question: First off, thanks for making various software that is absolutely amazing. As an avid Linux fan - how would you describe your connection with Linux? Thanks for amazing Wiki post on how to install it through Wine - you don't often see developers (especially music related software) caring about *nix community.

Reply on March 9 2016, 9:34pm:
I definitely like Linux too, but it's also a challenging target. I didn't write that Wiki post, but we do indeed like to support WINE (and are chipping away at the native version, slowly).

Question: What's your favourite hardware to listen to music to 1) at work 2) at not work
Asked by RonSwanson (95.89.174.x) on February 28 2016, 4:20pm
Reply on February 29 2016, 1:17am:
Ron Swanson! Wow what an honor! Can we get porterhouse?! It depends on the room, but a cheaper (e.g. $100) pair of Grado headphones is hard to beat, but when I do beat it it's usually with Meyersound HD-1s.

The 2000 S4 was my favorite. Not planning on getting any more cars though, but if I needed to have one, any manual transmission AWD wagon would probably be my preference. Nothing fancy though.

Question: What methods do you currently use to acquire others' music? itunes? spotify? pandora?
Asked by Will (107.203.156.x) on February 24 2016, 2:40am
Reply on February 24 2016, 4:45pm:
I find things I like wherever (Youtube often), then buy mp3s from Amazon usually, or wherever else if Amazon doesn't have it (for example The Courage Of Others I had to go to Musictoday). Not spotify or pandora. Boo. I like buying albums, even if they aren't physical.

Question: I'm attempting to build a loop pedal with a cheap ARM/Debian computer. Any software recommendations, that would allow me to script recording/layering/playbacks? My first thought is to script against something like Audacity manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/scripting.html . Any thoughts are appreciated :)

Hmm not really, but I've been thinking about getting a RPI2 since ARMv7 would make a JSFX port somewhat doable (FPU and 16-bit constant loads)...

Question: Apples. Red or green?
Asked by IXix (165.120.71.x) on February 6 2016, 8:19pm
Reply on February 6 2016, 9:51pm:
Green. Preferably not too green, Golden Delicious aren't green enough, Granny Smith too green. Mutsu is probably my favorite. I will also go on the red side too, though not Red Delicious, more like Pink Lady (though maybe they are a little too floral) or Gala.
