Question: Do you use MIDI ? If so, what for specifically ?
Asked by wasereb4 (87.123.192.x) on April 4 2018, 2:03am
Reply on April 4 2018, 2:30am:
I don't use the MIDI wire protocol (e.g. 5 pin DIN cables) except when testing various things. USB MIDI I use for controllers for my live performance super8 setup. I rarely use virtual instruments in my compositions these days, though sometimes.

Question: Have you ever had a disagreement with a coworker on a project that escalated to a personal level and/or got loud?
Asked by Will (23.125.224.x) on April 4 2018, 1:23am
Reply on April 4 2018, 1:28am (edited at April 4 2018, 1:29am):
I don't think so. I've definitely found some (most?) people difficult to work with in general, but I don't think it was ever about a particular instance (which is usually pretty recoverable if both parties are reasonable and/or don't take things too seriously). In any case it hasn't gotten loud that I can recall...

Question: Is it true that you licensed Rubber Band Audio for ReaSamplomatic but decided not to use it because of the added CPU cost?
Asked by Mommy (76.110.183.x) on April 3 2018, 9:13am
Reply on April 3 2018, 12:18pm:
We licensed it and use it as a pitch shift/timestretch engine, however RS5k only does resampling, not pitch shifting.

Question: You said you used Vegas & probably Ardour. Since, you are a developer of REAPER. Don't you use other DAWs, just to take ideas, features & tools from them? So that REAPER can give more or as much as other DAWs give? I guess, every software development companies do this, with their rival softwares.
Asked by Curiosity (117.222.220.x) on April 1 2018, 2:08pm
Reply on April 1 2018, 2:16pm:
Nah, but there's no shortage of other people asking for features that they've used elsewhere. Most of my process is just making things I want to use, and using them. Using other DAWs would be tedious work.

Question: If you weren't a developer of REAPER. And if REAPER was never invented. Then which DAW you were using now? (Just being curious :P)

Before I used REAPER the last thing I used was Vegas.. so maybe Acid Pro 7 or something? But that's been 12+ years so really I have no idea. Ardour?

Question: Do aliens (living beings other than in Earth) exists? Just forget those scary Hollywood movies for now. And think, that Earth can't be just a single habitable planet in this (observable) universe (which is even much bigger than 91 billion light years).

Reply on March 30 2018, 9:47pm:
Sure, they probably exist or have existed, but they're unfortunately probably really, really, REALLY, REALLY far away (and as a result, maybe their transmissions won't get here for millions of years too?)...

7 billion people is plenty, and I have no desire -- that's two but what more do you need?

(Edit: I also originally said "Oh sure, the burden is on me to list reasons why I don't want them, why don't you ask people who do want them to list the reasons they do?" but my wife thought I was being too irritable, sorry).

Reply on March 23 2018, 9:23pm:
Interesting concept, but in practice it is a ridiculous waste of energy and of people's time. I have a bet with a friend that it'll be less than $2,000 for a BTC by June. I might not win, but it's closer to that now than it was when I made the bet ;)
