Question: Thanks Justin! Actually your advice on learning in order to make something you wanted was extremely helpful! Were you ever at a place of having to choose between pursuing a longer-term, 'impractical' goal that made you curious and interested vs learning in-demand skills that you weren't interested in to Get A Job to pay bills?
Asked by SadNoob (71.70.229.x) on August 24 2019, 3:58pm
Reply on August 26 2019, 11:20pm:
I was never put in a position where I had to put aside things that I was interested in in order to work a job I didn't like, and for that I am incredibly grateful!

Question: some people are trying to mess the flow of this forum up on purpose it looks like, well that's fun. don't they realize justin frankel is a company not a person? its a microsoft pet project, winamp wasn't sold to aol, it was put under the aol label so aol doesn't look completely embarrassingly dead in the water, and cause a huge discussion around it

I am interested in water yeah, though the words detoxify and reënergize are a bit loaded. I really liked swimming in Copenhagen's harbor, which has been cleaned up sufficiently...

Question: Thanks Justin. How do I figure out what the heck programming is and what it means and what an algorithm is and what object oriented programming means? And stuff like that? Like, an idea of the larger state of things and the general terminology before I start poking around specifically in Javascript? There is just so much crappy and useless 'information' out there. Thanks in advance!
Asked by SadNoob (71.70.229.x) on August 23 2019, 4:13am
Reply on August 24 2019, 1:50pm:
Personally I tend to be goal-oriented and learn things in order to make things happen, but it's been so long since I've been early in the curve that it's hard for me to give any useful advice!

Question: REAPER has two developers (you & Schwa), right? Why don't you hire more developers, like 10 developers? So that it won't be too much load for you two? We don't mind having the discounted price increased from $60 to $80 or 100.

Question: I was wondering if there is a swell function for createpipe when using createprocess so the stdout, stderr, could be redirected to an edit control to read the output in real time, or could it even be added? Here's a sample snippet link that I got working on windows. Was wondering how I could do this on Mac, if possible? pastiebin.com/5d598085afe2dThanks, Wyatt

Reply on August 19 2019, 5:50pm (edited at August 19 2019, 5:52pm):
For macOS there is SWELL_CreateProcessIO()/SWELL_ReadWriteProcessIO() which you can use (or steal). (I know you didn't ask, but for linux -- pipe()/fork()/close()/dup2()/execvp()/fcntl/etc... a small pain but not too bad, let me know if you want some sample code).
