Question:
You've probably been asked this before but how do you handle the media for this site? do you use in-house boxes for music storage etc and just relay traffic from public to your stuff via aws or something, or just fully use a cloud provider?

Reply on July 4 2025, 3:48pm:
all my gigs and gigs of mp3s exist on a NAS, which is mounted by NFS to a linux VM which runs the music.1014.org web server, which sits behind my cheapo FIOS at home. the main blog pages exist on a cloud instance, separate from that, since they have a relatively small amount of media. I could put them on that same home VM though, but it's on a dynamic IP and if I did that I couldn't point the domain name itself (without the www. etc) to it easily (music.1014.org is a CNAME to a short-TTL dns name that points to the dynamic IP).
